Senior Data & AI Engineer
Transfer data to decisions, internally and externally
The role
We are looking for a Senior Data & AI Engineer to own Candeno's data foundation — end to end.
That means the data warehouse, the BI layer, and the instrumentation that makes our AI products work on reliable data. It also means showing up in customer meetings, understanding what they need, and building something that actually helps them.
This is not a pure backend role. You will work across technical, product, and customer-facing contexts. You will have real decision authority within your domain and be expected to use it.
You will report directly to our CTO and be part of the Product Leadership.
What you will work on
Data architecture and warehouse You own the overall data architecture — internally and on our customer-facing platform. You design and implement the data warehouse, including data modelling, access patterns, and integration with external BI tools.
BI and dashboards You are accountable for both internal and external dashboards. You make sure the right data reaches the right audience, in a form that drives real decisions.
Data analysis and business optimisation You work directly with customers to understand their needs and translate them into data-driven solutions. You support BI reporting and strategic decision-making across the company.
AI instrumentation and data readiness You instrument our AI chats, skills and agents so that requests, usage signals, and indicators become first-class data. You work closely with our Senior Software Engineer (AI) to ensure data is structured and accessible for AI/ML consumption.
Data pipelines and software development You design and build data pipelines, ETL/ELT flows, and integrations between Candeno's platform and the data warehouse. You write clean, maintainable code.
Compliance and mentoring You work with our legal advisor to keep data handling within regulatory requirements. You mentor engineers who contribute to the data layer and help raise data competence across the team, and is comfortable working with AI in development.
Who we are looking for
You have solid, hands-on experience with data warehouses and BI platforms — not just the theory, but the full build.
More specifically, we are looking for someone who:
- Has proven experience designing and implementing data warehouses and BI platforms end-to-end
- Has strong command of data modelling and knows how to navigate the tradeoffs between flexibility and control
- Has hands-on experience building data pipelines and ETL/ELT flows in a SaaS context
- Understands the quality and structural demands that AI/ML places on data
- Is comfortable operating independently across technical, product, legal, and customer-facing contexts
- Communicates clearly — with engineers, product leaders, and customers alike
You do not need to fit a fixed mould. But you should be someone who takes ownership, makes decisions without unnecessary process, and cares about getting things right.
Working at Candeno
We work from our office in Aarhus. The role is on site, but expect some travel to our customers across Scandinavia.
The tone is informal but professional. We are direct with each other, we trust competence over titles, and we expect people to speak up and move things forward. You will be part of a small, focused team where your work has a clear and visible impact.
What the first six months look like
We want to be upfront about what we expect. Here is what success looks like in the role:
After 1 month — you have familiarised yourself with Candeno's software architecture, BI setup, data flows, AI setup, and team dynamics. You have begun taking ownership of scoped tasks and are participating actively in the team's working processes.
After 3 months — you are driving the development of key parts of the data warehouse and BI. You have established relationships with key customers and are actively contributing to data analysis and AI instrumentation.
After 6 months — you are demonstrating technical leadership in data architecture and BI decisions. You are mentoring colleagues and serving as the primary data competence in the organisation.
The process
If your application catches our attention, here is what to expect:
- Screening call — a short conversation to get to know each other and answer any initial questions
- First interview — a deeper conversation about your experience, how you work, and the role
- Case interview — a practical case relevant to the role, sent to you in advance so you can prepare
We aim to move through the process efficiently and keep you informed at every step.
